Does it matter how smart he is? In my opinion, he’s the Rookie of the Year in the NFL. You know who looks pretty smart right now? Or really lucky? The Tennessee Titans.
For some reason, the NFL draft got all mixed up this year. It happens sometimes. A bunch of crazy opinions and rumors cause the values of some very good players to slide. That’s what happened to Vince Young of Texas. He should have been the first overall pick in the draft. Remember the National Championship game?
I can forgive anyone who says that Reggie Bush should have been the first pick. Perhaps they’re right, but there is absolutely no way that these two shouldn’t have been the first two picks. They are, by far, the two best players. Yes, I was saying that before the draft.
Around draft time, all kinds of people were saying that Vince Young was overrated. They also said that he was dumb, scoring only a six on the Wonderlic Test. For those of you who don’t know, the Wonderlic Test is administered to potential NFL players before the draft. The average score is twenty, which supposedly corresponds to the average IQ of 100. Vince Young supposedly scored below the ten that you would need to be considered literate. I heard and read this story over and over, and maybe it had something to do with the decline of his public perception right before the draft.
But, it’s fiction. It’s not true. That wasn’t his real score. See this Houston Chronicle story. He actually did much better; although, he didn’t quite achieve an average score. But, has his score really mattered? He’s amazing.
